12-0…Hawaii….SOS? Strength of Schedule or Six deg. Of Separation?

Question by str8chi: 12-0…Hawaii….SOS? Strength of Schedule or Six deg. Of Separation?
Why are people slamming the University of Hawaii? People are saying they haven’t played anyone and that they barely got past Washington. They scored 28 unanswered points!
They beat a Washington team that beat a Califonia team that beat a Tennessee team that lost by 7 to one of the teams in the Championship game and coincidentally beat one of those teams in Georgia. Oh yeah…it was the university of Georgia!!! I’m not saying it’s a lock for UH and things like injuries and rivialries don’t play a part, but it is what it is. I am just tired of people saying that if they were in the SEC they wouldn’t win 2 games. If what I have listed shows me something its that they would have done very well. They are linked by six degrees to the defeat of teams like USC, Tenn, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Oregon, Michigan, Arizona State…everyone in the Top 25. There’s your Strength of schedule.

Hawaii deserves more credit and they should have destroyed Washington who beat…who beat….who…
I know, and I am not saying that transitive theories should play a part in all of this. What I was basically trying to get out is that “Why not Hawaii?” Everyone is counting them out when a lot of the top teams this year were upset. Why not Hawaii? USC,LSU, Michigan…why not Hawaii? I think people are too closed minded….especially ESPN analyst Mark May on the Heisman and his bowl predictions. Hawaii has a potent offense and shouldn’t be taken lightly. Good response Soul Brother UGA but Hawaii did beat then 17th ranked Boise State.

    LSU
    Ohio State
    USC
    Kentucky
    Kansas
    Missouri
    Oklahoma
    Florida
    Florida St
    Auburn
    Alabama
    Arkansas
    Tennessee
    Oregon
    Michigan
    Arizona State
    Illinois

… AND GEORIGIA… they would of lost…. I can continue with more teams if you would like me too… The thing is they need to get out of that awful conference if they wanna ever become a real team to be taken serious…. I’m sorry man!

hmm i have absolutly no idea wat ur talkin bout unless its college football which i no nothing about.. but as for SOS… ahem.. ooh this is an SOS dont wanna second guess this is the bottom line its true i gave my all for u now my hearts in 2 and i cant find the other half its like im walking on broken glass better believe i bled… its a call ill never get…

  3. Ryan A says:

I agree, Sos is based of early year “predictions” ohio’s SOS probably ended up being around what they “predicted” for Hawaii. But they get in the NC. go figure

I give Hawaii lots of credit, but transitive theories don’t work in sports. Remember that.

They didn’t play a top 25 team all season. Lots of teams could have gone undefeated if they had no top 25 opponents.

Let’s see how Hawaii does vs. UGA in the Sugar Bowl. Not guaranteeing a Georgia victory, but Hawaii is a solid underdog for a reason.

I don’t think you can carry out that who beat who logic because there are always upsets. Its like saying, stanford beat usc, and notre dame beat standford, so notre dame should be in the rose bowl. I mean it could go on and on.

That being said. I think Hawaii deserves a shot simply because SO many teams had their shot and they blew it. Even if hawaii had it “easier”, at least they handled their business.

  6. KBro says:

they should have played someone like USC in the PAC-10 to get respect.. and washington is not good.. sorry they arent.. and Georgia will crush Hawaii this weekend.. cause Hawaii will be way far away..and its like a home game for Georgia..
    Georgia wins 42-21

I agree that Hawaii should have a shot at a National Title since they are the only undefeated team. Last year, Boise State was undefeated and proved that they could play with the big boys. Hawaii may not have played any powerhouses, but they took care of business. Hawaii tried like hell to schedule a strong out of confrence game, but no one would accept. Michigan, Michigan State, and Texas were all supposed to play them and backed out. They asked The way to settle this? On the field. Hawaii is just one of many teams who’s season points towards the fact that college football NEEDS a playoff.

UL monroe beat Alabama, Alabama beat Arkansas, Arkansas beat LSU, LSU beat South Carolina, and UGA lost to South Carolina.

UL Monroe should play in the Championship.

See how ridiculous your argument is…

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I’m a solid Georgia fan (I just realized I’m wearing a UGA shirt right now, actually) and I’m a little worried. I’m very much looking forward to the Sugar Bowl, though. It will be a much better match-up than I first thought. Your team will score some points, no doubt about it. I just don’t think they’ll have as easy a time with our defense and I don’t think they’ve faced an offense quite like ours. One thing you have to realize about UGA and the early season losses is that the team is largely underclassmen, many freshmen, and losses early in the season are to be expected with a young team. Besides that, as for the six degrees thing, the way this season has gone almost every team in D1 has the right to play in the NC if that’s your measure of who’s good.

Yeah, Hawaii’s SOS is pretty pathetic, but they absolutely DESTROYED most of the teams they played. I think a lot of other teams would be undefeated with their schedule. What would be interesting to see if whether they could have the same margins of victory.

Any way, best of luck to you. Here’s hoping for a good game.

Dude there is a much quicker way to compare Hawaii to a top 25 team.

    Hawaii vs. LA Tech 45-44
    LSU vs. La Tech 58-10

Hawaii has been playing close games against teams that other confrences blowout using second and third string.

  11. Jailbait101 says:

well see wut happens in the sugar bowl. i hope georgia doesnt barely pull out a win or lose it. they have an entire southern football region to defend. maybe they dont deserve a NCS bid, but its not like OSU and LSU deserve one either.
